Horseface loach

Add fascinating bottom-dwelling behavior to your freshwater aquarium with a Horseface Loach. Its elongated snout and sand-burrowing habits make this unusual fish an engaging choice for a thoughtfully planned aquarium.

Provide a mature, established freshwater aquarium with ample floor space, dependable filtration, and good oxygenation. Fine, soft sand is important for natural digging and sifting behavior. Avoid sharp gravel or rough decor that could damage its skin and sensitive mouthparts.

Include smooth hiding places and shaded retreats while leaving open sandy areas for exploration. Horseface loaches may spend much of their time buried, sometimes with only their eyes visible, and can be more active in subdued light. Keep decor stable and use a secure lid.

Choose peaceful tank mates with compatible water requirements, and avoid aggressive fish or bottom dwellers that monopolize food. Allow room for adult growth and monitor interactions with other loaches.

Offer suitable sinking foods and small frozen or live foods, such as bloodworms and brine shrimp. Feed near its preferred hiding area or in dimmer light when needed, and check that it is eating. Do not rely on leftovers from other fish as its only food source.

Maintain stable water conditions with regular water changes and careful substrate maintenance. Individual size and markings vary naturally.
