Add a splash of color and lively movement to your freshwater aquarium with the Albino Kohaku Swordtail. This eye-catching swordtail variety is known for its pale body, red-orange markings, and pink to red eyes. Mature males develop the signature sword-like extension on the lower tail.
Active and generally peaceful, these livebearers do well in a spacious, established community aquarium with compatible tank mates. Provide plants for cover, open swimming space, and a secure lid, as swordtails can jump.
- Scientific name: Xiphophorus hellerii
- Recommended aquarium: 30 gallons or larger
- Temperature: 72–78°F
- Water: Neutral to slightly alkaline; moderately hard to hard
- Diet: Quality omnivore flakes or pellets, supplemented with vegetable-based foods and occasional frozen foods
Keep more females than males when housing a mixed-sex group to help reduce persistent chasing. Swordtails are livebearers and can reproduce readily in suitable conditions.
Color, markings, size, and sword development vary by individual, age, and sex.
